Position Title: Recreation Superintendent
Division: Administrative / Recreation
Reports To: Executive Director
Status: Full-Time, Exempt
Position Summary
Under the supervision of the Executive Director, the Recreation Superintendent is responsible for the efficient operation, development, and supervision of the Canton Park District’s recreation programs and facilities. This includes direct oversight of the Big Creek Park Swimming Pool, Baker Recreation Center, and all associated recreation staff and programs. The position is a “working superintendent” role, actively involved in both program delivery and staff supervision to ensure high-quality recreational services for the community.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
• Oversee daily operations of the Big Creek Park Swimming Pool and Baker Recreation Center. Oversee Youth Baseball and plan, coordinate, and implement a variety of recreation programs and special events for all ages. Ensure safe and efficient delivery of services across all recreation programs.
• Supervise, train, and evaluate recreation staff, including part-time, and seasonal employees.
• Maintain accurate records for the recreation department, including timecards, deposits, attendance, and inventory.
• Prepare and manage the annual recreation division budget, including cost control and purchasing of supplies and materials.
• Develop and maintain effective relationships with community organizations, schools, and the general public.
• Prepare reports, recommendations, and data analysis as requested by the Executive Director.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
• Position requires some lifting and physical exertion.
Education and Experience
• Bachelor’s Degree in Parks and Recreation, Leisure Services, or a related field.
• Minimum of three (3) years of recreation work experience, including supervisory responsibilities.
Qualifications and Certifications
• Working knowledge of recreation programming, with special expertise in:
o Outdoor pool operations
o Facility management
o Special event management
o Senior programming
• Must possess or be able to obtain within an established timeframe:
o Certified Pool Operator (CPO) license
o American Red Cross Lifeguard Instructor certification
o American Red Cross First Aid Instructor certification
o Automated External Defibrillator (AED) training
Compensation and Benefits
• Salary Range: $45,000 – $55,000 annually, commensurate with qualifications and experience.
