JOB TITLE:
EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR OF CANTON AREA CHAMBER OF COMMERCE
Compensation
• Salary: $40,000 – $48,000, commensurate with experience.
• This position does not include traditional benefits; however, a stipend toward cell phone usage, health insurance and/or retirement may be available and will be discussed during the hiring process.
• This is an at-will employment position and does not create contractual employment rights.
Key Responsibilities-Chamber Operations
The Executive Director, with the assistance of the Chamber Board, initiates programs, which are funded with member dues and fundraising. These programs must promote activities to advance the general welfare and prosperity of the Canton area and ensure the business community will prosper.
● New Member Acquisition – The Executive Director, with assistance from the Chamber Board, will develop programs and events to attract new members consistent with established Chamber policy through:
1. Establishing a personal rapport with potential members through regular calls, emails or
phone calls.
2. Conducting a needs assessment of non-members and recommending solutions within the scope of the Chamber
3. Setting goals for acquiring new members and providing a monthly report to the Chamber Board on the number and status of activities
● Coordinates and assists the Chamber Board in the design and execution of projects to enhance the community and encourage collaboration and a positive business environment in the area;
● Issues press releases, publications, brochures and promotional literature, letters to business clients and public officials, and publicity to other Chamber publications (including but not limited to; the Chamber Courier newsletter, bulletins, press releases, Member Minute, Facebook,
Etc.).
● Develops and maintains beneficial relationships with other chambers of commerce, the city, Spoon River Partnership for Economic Development, and county government entities;
● Schedules and/or attends meetings of various groups within the business community when such meetings may involve or affect the purpose and function of the Chamber or related projects to the Chamber;
● Helps prepare, attends and participates in all Chamber sponsored events and functions;
● Attends conferences, seminars and other agency meetings approved by the Chamber Board;
● Performs public relations and public speaking related to the Chamber’s interest;
● Participates in organizations relating to the business environment of the Chamber as approved by the Chamber Board;
● Prepares annual budget and assists the Chamber Board in long range and strategic planning;
● Works with the Chamber Board in identifying fundraising activities or other sources of funds for the Chamber and plans community events deemed as fundraisers for the Chamber.
● Works in conjunction with the Chamber Board to ensure the Chamber has adequate insurance on fire, liability, and other needed protection;
● Maintains a functional office with special emphasis on providing a professional business environment;
● Supervises the work performed by the Assistant Director;
● Performs other reasonable duties as requested by the Chamber Board.
● Serves as liaison to local businesses
