Executive Director Assistant
with a concentration in Marketing & Tourism
PURPOSE
The primary functions of this position are to 1) Work as an assistant to the SRPED Executive Director.  2) maintain the www.cantonillinois.org and www.visitcantonil.org websites with up-to-date content related to tourism and special events and a design that is appealing and 3) undertake marketing projects to achieve more visibility for the Canton/Fulton County area. 
The principal duties are performed in an office and outdoor environment that may include working in adverse weather conditions.  The position does have flexibility in work hours and workplace on a case by case basis.  Compensatory (Comp) time is allowed, but must be used within the two week pay period.  A time log is required and must be submitted to Executive Director each pay period.
The SRPED Assistant reports to the Executive Director and will meet with the director once a week to cover duties.    
The following are general objectives about the position. 
SRPED ASSISTANT
The purpose of the assistant is to facilitate a smooth operation of the SRPED and provide administrative support to the Executive Director of SRPED. 
            ●   Manages the day-to-day operations of the SRPED office.
            ●   Greets visitors both in the office and on the telephone.
●   Helps develop and maintain administrative procedures and maintains office
                 record-keeping systems. 

            ●   Processes incoming and outgoing mail.
            ●   Processes and transports deposits, enters payments into QB.
            ●   Maintains general office and program supplies/equipment. 
            ●   Orders office supplies when needed. 
            ●   Acts as the Canton Main Street liaison.
●   Takes SRPED and CMS board meeting minutes.
            ●   Assists Executive Director and CMS Board President in the preparation and
                 dissemination of CMS board packets.

            ●   Produces a monthly marketing report to be shared in the SRPED board packet and
                 the City of Canton monthly communication for the first City Council meeting of the
                 month.

            ●   Produces a quarterly marketing report to be shared at the Fulton County board
                 meetings.

            ●   Assists Executive Director in producing and keeping an updated property inventory to
                 be posted on the cantonillinois.org and Location One Information System (LOIS)
                 websites. 

            ●   Annually updates the site selection data standards tables and other SRPED
                 marketing materials. 

            ●   Assists Executive Director with grant applications.
            ●   Acts in place of the Executive Director as assigned.
            ●   Other duties may be assigned. 

TOURISM & MARKETING CONCENTRATIONS
Since primary funding comes from the City of Canton Hotel/Motel Tax fund, work efforts have to promote tourism and overnight stays in the City of Canton. 
TOURISM
Examples of work may include:
●   Keep cantonillinois.org/visitcantonil.org updated daily with information about
      special events, tourist attractions, or other information that may be of interest to
      travelers.

●   Keep the website designed in a manner that is aesthetically pleasing to travelers.
●   Generate support for collateral business opportunities that provide a service or
     product for travelers and have that information readily available and easily accessible
     on the web. 

●   Provide above tourism information to Fulton County communication venues.
●   Participate and/or connect to other Fulton County tourism groups/organizations. 
●   Evaluate the website (s) content on a quarterly basis.
●   Responsible for submitting and monitoring the Hotel/Motel Tax Grant from the City of
     Canton. 

●   Meet with Hotel owners quarterly to gauge their guest statistics during special events
     and provide information to them for guest distribution about the area (e.g. Unique   
     Shopping and Dining Guides).

●   Meet with tourism related businesses to discuss and implement tourist packages. 
●   Promote Canton/Fulton County as a destination by inviting and working with a variety
     of touring groups.

●   Serves as the Canton Site Representative for the Spoon River Scenic Drive.
●   Schedules, promotes and facilitates Canton Main Street and SRPED special
     events.  This may require work after normal working hours on nights and weekends.

●   Recruits and collaborates with volunteers working on special events. 
●   Engage and utilize regional and statewide tourism stakeholders to promote the area
                 (i.e. Illinois Office of Tourism, Peoria Area Convention and Visitor’s Bureau, Illinois
                 River Road). 


MARKETING
Coordinator must be a strong communicator who wants to make this area a better place to live and work.  They should be able to develop and maintain an overarching coherent look and feel for the Canton website and brand in all aspects of communication.  The Coordinator should be creative and a strategic thinker as well as someone who has the technical expertise to take on new internet-based projects.
Examples of work may include:
            ●   Developing and distributing press releases, fact sheets, promotional brochures and
                 flyers. 

            ●   Produce promotional videos to be posted on the websites and uploaded to websites
                 like YouTube.

            ●   Utilize social networking sites to get information about the area to a broader
                 audience.

●   Responsible for developing and distributing Community Guides, Unique Shopping
     and Dining Guides and Annual Calendar of Events flyer. 

●   Create and disseminate an On-Line Downloadable Resident’s Handbook.
●   Generate articles about the area that could potentially be published in magazines. 
●   Produce annual marketing plan including measurable goals and objectives. 
 
Job Requirements
Bachelor’s degree or equivalent work experience.  Three to five years’ work experience is preferred.  Working knowledge of desktop design and layout (Adobe Creative Suite 5 – Photoshop, InDesign, Illustrator etc.) and print production processes.  Demonstrated experience in writing and editing materials for print and web-based communication vehicles.  Project management experience, exceptional organizational skills and communications skills; flexibility, ability and tact to work with a variety of situations and people (including volunteers) to accomplish tasks. 
Position will sometimes require lifting of up to 40 pounds. 
Hours of operation are 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Monday through Friday.  However, this position REQUIRES some nights and weekend hours.  Applicants must possess a valid driver’s license and have access to an insured vehicle. 
This is a salaried position with a compensation package.
